My name is Poppy Villavicencio. I’ve lived a life full of adventure and healing. I found Yoga and Meditation while on these adventures and they have guided me ever since.
Let me tell you my story.
I spent 10 years working in a highly stressed corporate job. This company did little to help employees with their work-life balance, physical health, and mental health. In general, the population of employees were angry, stressed, and making impactful mistakes out of exhaustion.
When I was 18 years old I was out walking on a dark Minnesota evening. I looked around and saw all of the T.V. lights reflecting on the snow. I thought to myself, there has to be more than this. A life spent going to work in the same place year after year to work for something I don’t care about just wasn’t appealing to me.
I thought to myself, ``What is my purpose here?''
A strange thing happened, at that moment I felt a strange sense of peace. I felt a longing for a home that I couldn’t really identify. I decided to look and find it for myself.
I got a van and decided to go with the flow and see where life would take me. This decision began a strange series of events that completely changed my life trajectory. I found myself simply flowing with life. I was on a great adventure that lasted about 10 years, but in reality, I’m still on that adventure.
During this period of my life, I learned to meditate and began to work on developing my intuition.
I used prayer for guidance. Every time I was at a crossroads, something amazing would happen. I went from a hippy festival in Gainesville, Florida to hot springs in Pagosa Springs, Colorado, to living in a giant Tee-pee by the river, to running a healing center in Sedona, Arizona.
The adventures kept happening, and along the way, I learned more about myself and the healing powers of yoga, meditation, and other spiritual disciplines.
I kept pushing south and ultimately ended up backpacking all the way through Central America. When I got as far south as Panama I hopped on a plane to Peru. I was at the foothills of Machu Picchu, Peru when I met my husband. It was love at first sight. 4 months later we were married and moved to Minnesota. I grew up in Minnesota and my lovely family lived here. I missed them and I wanted to be close to them. Edward was up for the adventure. At this time we started working in the corporate world.
One day, I was running off to another meeting when I passed an empty boardroom and thought “Wouldn’t that be a great place for a yoga class?” Why not build a place for employees to relieve their stress and take a break from the day? The idea of Incorporate Yoga began to take shape. As time passed, I began to feel that sense of longing again. Is this really the life that we want to create?
We had two girls. Ananda Micaela and Satyana Rafaela.
Satyana was born in the back of a car on the way to the hospital. I can tell you that it was quite a night! Edward, my husband, was driving the car. Because English was his second language, when I yelled out ‘I can’t hold her in any longer’ he thought I was exaggerating - until I held up our beautiful new daughter.
Ananda was 2 years old when Satyana was born. Satyana turned out to have some problems with her brain. I quit work to stay home with her while she was in hospice. I was holding my beautiful baby when she passed away at four months old.
It was time to re-think things again. Satyana brought with her so many gifts, one of which was that she completely stripped away any extraneous stuff. What was important became so clear.
As I rebuild myself, like a Phoenix, I wanted to rebuild my life. What is my purpose here? I knew I wanted to help people - and began to further develop the idea of Incorporate Yoga. A company where I could incorporate all of my spiritual disciplines and bring light and love to the world. As Satyana had done for us.
Incorporate Yoga is dedicated to Satyana.
A life doesn’t need to be long in order to create a big impact. With Incorporate Yoga, Satyana is continuing to make a big impact.
The Samkalpa, or intention, of Incorporate Yoga, is that everyone we touch, from our teachers to our clients, is impacted to the highest level possible.
I found my purpose, now let me help you find yours.
